Enable Complex Script Support

 

Web Browsers: Currently only Internet Explorer 8 supports tb-lr (displaying vertically from left to right). Internet Explorer 6 & 7 support displaying vertically, but only tb-rl can be used. None of the other web browsers support displaying vertically.


Use Complex Scripts on Your Computer

Please configure your computer and applications step by step.

Windows 2000/XP/2003:

Step 1: Enable Complex Script Support
Step 2: Upgrade Uniscribe
Step 3: Install Fonts
Step 4: Install Keyboard Layout
Step 5: Configure Applications

Windows Vista/2008/7:

Step 1: Install Fonts
Step 2: Install Keyboard Layout
Step 3: Configure Applications

If there is anything wrong, please go to Test and Troubleshooting.


Enable Complex Script Support

Windows Vista/2008/7 has already enabled complex script support by default.

Windows 2000/XP/2003 come with complex script support but this support is not on by default and usually needs to be enabled manually. Windows 2000/XP/2003 users need to follows the steps below.

Windows XP/2003

You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.

1. Click Start, click Control Panel.

a) If you are using Category View in Control Panel, click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options, and then click Regional and Language Options.
b) If you are using Classic View in Control Panel, click Regional and Language Options directly.

2. On the Languages tab, under Supplemental language support, select the Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages check box.

3. Click OK or Apply.

4. At this point you may be asked to insert a Windows XP/2003 CD so that Windows can copy the necessary files to your system.

This Windows CD does not have to be the original CD which came with your computer, or the CD from which you originally installed Windows, but it must be for the same version of the installed Windows XP or 2003.

5. It may take a minute or two for Windows to copy the necessary files. After the files are installed, you must restart your computer.


6. It's recommended to install the latest Windows service pack.

Windows updates are distributed in service packs. Service packs help keep Windows current, and extend and update the functionality of your computer.
